“I wish I had contacted Stewart before my first Standards Check. I found the training really positive and helpful and I have now passed. Thanks for the skills and the confidence.” Raymond McElroy – Owner at A8 School of Motoring, Greenock
“I passed my standards test today with a grade A 47/51. It was my first one for 10 years. I could not have passed this without the standard test training from Stewart Lochrie. The training was second to none, and Stewart updated me with all the new methods of tuition and without his training, there is no doubt I would have struggled.
For any instructors struggling with the standard test, I have to say it was the best investment for a long time. I would give a very strong recommendation to any instructors looking for further development, and I wouldn’t hesitate to access further training from Stewart. Thanks very much for all your help.” Steve Potter – ADI, Strathaven
“Stewart is an excellent coach ; very patient, kind, thorough and inspirational. I had a great time improving my skills with him and would recommend his services to all instructors wishing to improve or extend their knowledge, and especially those preparing for a potentially career changing exam.” Pamela Killen – Owner @ Target Driving School, Hamilton.
“Feel I must leave a positive review here. As an experienced Instructor I went into my Standards Check almost casually, took the wrong pupil ( too good, too quiet) and had little to do..not good. Swallowed my pride and contacted Stewart. He was so positive and helpful in showing me what had changed, and equally ,what hadn’t changed! I re-sat, and achieved an “A”. I learned from Stewart that I am a good teacher, I just needed to hone a few things. Highly recommended!” Gordon Smith – Owner @ Gordon’s Driving School, Glenrothes
“I would thoroughly recommended Stewart for standards check training. Stewart explained in detail how each category in the test form was marked and then he explained how I should conduct the lesson to achieve a good result. I will definitely contact Stewart again before my next Standard Check.” Robert McCracken – Owner @ McCracken Driving School, Dumfries
“I recently had my standards check and passed with an A. Without the training provided by Stewart Lochrie this would not have been possible. I would recommend any ADI needing up to date training to use Stewart as he is a fantastic trainer and a really good person. Stewart puts you at ease and will provide you with the tools to get the job done. Thanks Stewart – the grade A means a lot and I will continue to use you to further my development in the near future.”Andy Davie – Owner – Fair City School of Motoring, Perth, Scotland.
“Thank you to Stewart Lochrie for all his help in helping me get a grade A in my Standards Check today. Very patient and obliging and a great confidence boost!!!” Johnny Campbell – ADI, Isle of Skye
“Hi Stewart, I thoroughly enjoyed the course on Monday and definitely took a lot of new ideas and knowledge away with me. I have already been including some of the ideas and even gave 2 of my pupils the background of coaching and explained the new style of learning that might be of use to them and they both jumped at the opportunity. One relished the chance to drive unaided for a bit; and the other requested very soon that she drives to Arbroath as she has family there, so that is given me practice of GROW. She also likes the idea of a reflective log as she has this for her school band! Thanks for your time and I look forward to learning more on the BTEC 3.” Andrew Roncone – Owner at AR Driver Training, Dundee.
“I would not hesitate to recommend Stewart from Caledonian LDT for standards check training and general business support. He has been invaluable in helping me leading up to my Standards Check. He is very patient, really knows his stuff and has helped me to regain my confidence in myself so that I was able to pass. Look no further if you are needing help and advice for anything ADI related.” Sarah Cunningham – ADI, Glasgow South

The Standards Check marking form is divided into 3 sections: Lesson Planning, Risk Management, and Teaching & Learning Strategies. You will be allocated points for each section, with the maximum available being 51. Depending on your score, you will be given an A grade, a B grade, or you will not pass and will be invited to sit another assessment. If you do not pass, the DVSA is likely to recommend that you seek further development.
One of the objectives behind the change is a move towards a more client-centred (or learner-centred, or pupil-centred) approach; one that puts the client in the middle of the decision-making processes in a way that just is not possible with traditional instructor-led techniques. Coaching is different from instruction, and research suggests that it can produce drivers who are better prepared for life after the practical test.
